With over 50 game parks, Kenya earns its reputation as Africa's most popular destination for wildlife safaris, a word originating from the Swahili meaning quite simply 'journeys'. The great wildebeest migration from the Serengeti in the south to the Masai Mara provides an awe-inspiring spectacle that you will never forget. Lake Nakuru is regarded as the finest bird sanctuary in the world, providing home to millions of pink flamingos and many other water birds. Amboseli translates in Masai as 'salty dust', however it has an endless supply of water that filters through thousands of meters of volcanic rock from Mount Kilimanjaro's ice cap. But to get off the beaten path, head north. In Meru visitors will see a more diverse range of species than in any other Park or Reserve. Regular sightings include Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Elephant, Grevy's Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Lesser Kudu, Grant's Gazelle, Leopard, Lion, Cheetah, Rhino and the rare, elusive Greater Kudu. In Laikipia, which is remote and beautiful, you will discover some truly spectacular landscapes and fascinating wildlife in this rugged and untouched part of Kenya. An ideal combination of safari and beach time can be arranged by visiting the idyllic white sandy beaches, with warm turquoise waters along the Indian Ocean coast. Kenya provides a depth and range to delight all travellers.
