Kenya - Masai Mara

Governors' Camps - The setting is magical. So much so that almost a century ago it was reserved exclusively for Kenya’s Governors and their Royal visitors. Now Governors’ Camp nestles in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, its waters teem with hippo and crocodile. The entire camp is under canvas, with all the comforts of a five-star hotel. Some of the 38 tents line the riverbank; others have views across the sweeping plains. All are in the classic safari style, spacious and tasteful, with en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flushing toilets. Governors’ is home to the BBC television series ‘The Big Cat Diary’ and has just been voted the Best Wilderness Experience 2004 by the Sunday Times Travel magazine.

There are three separate camps in the Governors' family in the Mara. Governors' Main Camp - cost from £125 per person per night (low season) £195 per person per night (peak season), Little Governors' - cost £225 per person per night (peak season), Il Moran - cost £290 per person per night (peak season).

Flying into the Mara is the best way to start your safari - you will fly from Nairobi over the Great Rift Valley, and then over the vast open plains of the Masai Mara where you get your first glimpse of elephant, giraffe, wildebeest and zebra far below you. At the landing strip there is a small pool which is home to a pod of hippo - you are thrown straight into the action. The thrill of the bush with Africa’s big game is what brings people to the Masai Mara. Get up close to the big cats on a game drive in our custom built four wheel drive land rover. You can take as many game drives as you like, all included in your package. Alternatively leave your vehicle behind and take a walking safari with one of our armed guides for the true thrill of the bush. Down on the same level as the animals you will experience the untamed beauty of the Mara. You will track game, unsure what waits around the next corner, giraffe, buffalo or even lion. You will catch the scents and sounds of the wild Africa. And at the end of it all waits a sumptuous bush barbeque complete with champagne.[suggested itinerary...] [back>]
