Saturday – Day One – Macushla House, Nairobi.
Transfer from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the rustic charm and modern comforts of this delightful hotel, set in the forested outskirts of Nairobi. Relax by the swimming pool or just rest and enjoy the sunshine, or perhaps visit the neighbouring Giraffe Sanctuary.
Sunday - Day Two – Elsa’s Kopje, Meru National Park.
Cheli and Peacock will collect you and transfer you to Wilson Airport to catch the 07.45: Air Kenya scheduled flight to Meru National Park, arriving 08.35. On arrival you will be met by your guide and taken to our camp. Settle into your room, unpack and relax by the pool until lunch. After a siesta in the early afternoon, poolside or on your hill view verandah enjoy an extended afternoon game drive.
Elsa's Kopje is a luxurious oasis in the stunning Meru National Park, home to Elsa the lioness made famous by George and Joy Adamson. 8 ‘Makuti’ (thatched) stone cottages blend into the hillside, each with its own bath or shower and toilet ensuite and private verandah with a unique view. The cottages face across seemingly endless savannah, fringed with doum palms, crisscrossed by 13 rivers. Bushbabies and Hyrax live on Mughwango Hill and close by Elsa's descendents hunt the shy but plentiful plains game. This Park is renowned for its Elephant herds and fantastic flora and scenery.
Monday and Tuesday – Days 3 and 4 – Elsa’s Kopje, Meru National Park.
Full days of game viewing on foot or in one of the custom built safari vehicles. Try an early morning guided walk in the bush to work up an appetite for breakfast. Or take an extended game drive to the banks of the Tana River to view hippos and Crocodiles, ending with late afternoon sundowners on the riverbanks before a night game drive home.
Wednesday – Day 5 and 6 – Larsens, Samburu National Reserve.
Say goodbye to Meru, departing on the Air Kenya schedule at 08.45 arriving in Samburu at 0905. Your guide from Larsens will meet you at the airstrip and transfer you to the camp. Larsens leads you on a silk-lined safari through northern Kenya's savagely beautiful Samburu National Reserve into a world of bubbly breakfasts on the riverbank and sundowners overlooking the savannah. The untamed landscape epitomises the East African wild - a breath taking horizon soaring far away into the distance, lofty mountains, plunging escarpments and the Ewaso Nyiro River that ensures a year round profusion of wildlife.
Larsens is camping in style with colonial elegance; hot showers and towelling gowns in your tent add a high degree of comfort. The dining tent is open on three sides so you can look out over the river while you enjoy a first class dinner served by candlelight. Get taken back in time in the bar where historical artifacts add to the ambience while you play backgammon or chess. After dinner you can sit around a campfire and chat with other guests or gaze at the Milky Way and see the galaxy as never before.
Friday – Day 7 – Elephant Pepper Camp, Masai Mara.
After an early breakfast transfer to the airstrip to catch the 09.15 Air Kenya Scheduled flight to the Masai Mara, arriving at 10.45. You will be met by your guide and transferred to camp. Relax, unpack and soak up the sights and sounds of the bush in the world’s most spectacular wildlife ecosystem. After lunch and a siesta take a late afternoon game drive.
This seasonal and secluded bush camp is idyllic; shaded by an indigenous forest of mature trees the camp looks out on an endless vista of plains game and the open plains characteristic of the world’s most sought after game reserve. The 8 traditional safari tents are very comfortable and spacious with en-suite showers, flush toilets, washroom and dressing area. Evenings by the campfire overlooking the plains, lit only by the soft glow of hurricane lamps and dinner under the stars are a special feature of this tented camp. This is an original bush camp. Put up for the season and then packed away to leave no trace behind. Here you leave the modern world behind and relax with nature, evenings bathed in the soft light of hurricane lamps, no generators, no vehicles passing, just the sights and sounds of the bush…
Saturday and Sunday – Days 8 and 9 – Elephant Pepper Camp, Masai Mara.
The daily ritual of game tracking on foot or from a 4WD vehicle is addictive: become part of this magnificent wildlife spectacle; observe their rituals and inter-action. The light here is superb and the views stunning. Spend your days exploring the wilderness, watching and listening to the bush. Bush breakfast, sundowners and evenings by the campfire after dinner, lit by soft lamps, make this a magical experience.
Monday – Day 10
After a last game drive or walk in the Masai Mara, catch the 11.00 Air Kenya Schedule flight back to Nairobi arriving at 12.15. A Cheli and Peacock driver will meet you and transfer you to the /International Airport for your journey home.
