Day 2 - Sabuk - Laikipia
An early breakfast awaits before a walk up the valley, heading North with views that will seduce you with their beauty and serenity. Take in the dramatic view which falls away before you with Mount Kenya as its backdrop. The Sabuk camels and trackers will meet you with snacks and cool drinks served on the edge of the cliffs. Ride the camels or amble down to Sabuk Lodge for lunch.
Sabuk is remote and beautiful… an alluring haven on the edge of the Northern Frontier District. With five double guest cottages perched on a cliff overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro river below, time stands still and the haunting beauty of this wilderness spreads out before you. Forget all about mechanised transport and take a camel assisted walking safari for one or several days. Trekking with the Laikipiak Masai, your professional guide will organise fly camping and walking amongst big game and shaded rest in the cool of the riverine forests.
Day 3 - Sabuk - Laikipia
(Optional fly camp walking with camels) - Set off in the cool early morning for a morning’s walk or ride with camels. Led by a professional safari guide and his team of trained Laikipiak Masai, the walk takes you across the hills with glimpses of the Ewaso Nyiro river. Brunch is under the acacia trees. Take an afternoon swim in a natural rock pool. Return to Sabuk for campfire sundowners and dinner.
Day 4 - Elsa’s Kopje - Meru National Park
At 10.00 your private charter will fly you from Sabuk to Meru where you will be met and transferred to the lodge. Elsa's Kopje is a luxurious oasis in the stunning Meru National Park, home to Elsa the lioness made famous by George and Joy Adamson. 8 ‘Makuti’ (thatched) stone cottages blend into the hillside, each with its own bath or shower and toilet en suite and private verandah with a unique view. The cottages face across seemingly endless savannah, fringed with doum palms, crisscrossed by 13 rivers. Bushbabies and Hyrax live on Mughwango Hill and close by Elsa's descendents hunt the shy but plentiful plains game. This Park is renowned for its Elephant herds and fantastic flora and scenery.
Days 5 and 6 - Elsa's Kopje - Meru National Park
Full days of game viewing on foot or in one of the custom built safari vehicles. Try an early morning guided walk in the bush to work up an appetite for breakfast. Or take an extended game drive to the banks of the Tana River to view hippos and Crocodiles, ending with late afternoon sundowners on the riverbanks before a night game drive home.
Day 7 - Elepehant Pepper Camp - Masai Mara
Leave Meru early to fly to nanyuki in time to catch the Safari Link scheduled flight to the Masai Mara at 10.00. You will be met at the airstrip and be transferred to camp with game viewing en-route.
Relax, unpack and soak up the sights and sounds of the bush in the world’s most spectacular wildlife ecosystem. After lunch and a siesta take a late afternoon game drive.
This seasonal and secluded bush camp is idyllic; shaded by an indigenous forest of mature trees the camp looks out on an endless vista of plains game and the open plains characteristic of the world’s most sought after game reserve. The 6 traditional safari tents are very comfortable and spacious with en-suite showers, flush toilets, washroom and dressing area. Evenings by the campfire overlooking the plains, lit only by the soft glow of hurricane lamps and dinner under the stars are a special feature of this tented camp. This is an original bush camp. Put up for the season and then packed away to leave no trace behind. Here you leave the modern world behind and relax with nature, evenings bathed in the soft light of hurricane lamps, no generators, no vehicles passing, just the sights and sounds of the bush…
Day 8 and 9 - Elephant Pepper Camp - Masai Mara
The daily ritual of game tracking on foot or from a 4WD vehicle is addictive: become part of this magnificent wildlife spectacle; observe their rituals and inter-action. The light here is superb and the views stunning. Spend your days exploring the wilderness, watching and listening to the bush. Bush breakfast, sundowners and evenings by the campfire after dinner, lit by soft lamps, make this a magical experience.
